Captain Toad is a pirate. He sails the seas, he hunts for treasure. His moral compass is wonky at best. One day, he stumbles upon a treasure potentially greater than any treasure discovered before: a mystical eyepatch that allows him to feel when there is treasure nearby! How does this work? No one knows. Are there any real practical implications for such a thing? Not particularly, but without it we don’t have a story, so here goes!
With the eyepatch in his possession, Captain Toad’s reputation grows in leaps and bounds, tales of his bravado spread around the world like whispers on the wind. Suspicions begin to arise amongst the rival pirate contingencies about how Toad is managing these feats, and from these suspicions grows attention. Unwanted attention.
Cap’ comes home one day to find his loyal Consigliere, Joey Fontaine, bleeding in the study. He explains that he had been attacked by a group of rival mob bosses, and they have found and emptied Toad’s stash house worth of treasure and taken it for themselves! Cap’ swears vengeance upon his rivals and sets about a trail of bloody destruction amongst the Families as he reclaims what is wrongfully his.
